Southwest: Read our lips — no new baggage fees

On Wednesday, Southwest Airlines CEO (and new chairman) Gary Kelly seemed to make it clear — Southwest didn’t intend to add new fees for checked bags.

The question came up, of course, because American announced earlier that day that it would charge customers on domestic trips $15 for the first bag, to go with the $25 fee it and many other airlines recently imposed.

Among those reporting on the bag situation was the New York Times, which said in its Thursday story: “Other major American airlines, including Southwest Airlines, said Wednesday that they were considering matching the fee.”
